Pakistan FO Hopes for Ex-Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan's Evacuation in 'Next Couple of Days'

ISLAMABAD (October 6, 2025) – Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (FO) announced today that it is “working tirelessly” for the safe evacuation of former Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, who was detained by Israeli forces last week after the interception of a Gaza-bound aid flotilla.

The Foreign Office expressed hope that the repatriation process for the former Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) senator will be successfully concluded “within the next couple of days.”

Key Details from the FO Statement:

  • Tireless Efforts: The FO, through its Embassy in Amman, is actively engaged in diplomatic efforts to secure Mr. Khan’s safe return
  •  Jordanian Assistance: The ministry highlighted the “invaluable assistance of the Jordanian government,” to whom Pakistan is “deeply grateful for their exemplary cooperation and generous support.”
  • Latest Status: Mr. Khan was detained on October 2, after the Israeli military intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), which was carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza. Previous statements confirmed that he is in Israeli custody, “safe and in good health,” and will be presented before a court for the issuance of deportation orders, after which his repatriation will be fast-tracked.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also personally directed Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar to lead the efforts and coordinate with friendly countries and international organizations to ensure the safe and prompt return of all Pakistani citizens detained during the interception.

While many other activists from the flotilla, including Greta Thunberg, have reportedly been or are expected to be released, Mr. Khan and several others remain in Israeli custody. The Pakistani government has strongly condemned the interception of the GSF and continues to demand the immediate release of all detainees.
