KARACHI – October 6, 2025: Weakened Cyclonic Storm ‘Shakhti’ to Bring Isolated Light Rain to Sindh and Balochistan Coasts, PMD Confirms

The severe cyclonic storm “Shakhti” over the Arabian Sea has significantly weakened, but the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) still forecasts the possibility of isolated light ran in the coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan today, Monday.

According to the latest advisory issued by the PMD, the system over the west-central and adjoining northwest Arabian Sea has de-intensified into a cyclonic storm over the last six hours. As of the latest update, the storm is centered approximately 910 kilometers southwest of Karachi.

Storm Trajectory and Further Weakening

The PMD states that the cyclonic storm is likely to continue moving east-southeastwards over the same region and is expected to further weaken into a depression within the next 24 hours.

Coastal Rain and Sea Conditions

Under the influence of the weakening system:

  • Rainfall: Isolated light rain is likely to occur in the coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan today.
  • Sea State: Sea conditions are predicted to remain high to very rough, with squally winds gusting up to 90 kilometers per hour near the Sindh coast.

Fishermen Advisory

In light of the rough sea conditions, fishermen have been strongly advised by the PMD not to venture into the deep sea until tomorrow, October 7th. The situation is expected to improve thereafter. Gale-force winds around the system’s center are also expected to gradually decrease.

The PMD’s Cyclone Warning Centre in Karachi is continuously monitoring the system and has urged relevant authorities to remain informed by the latest advisories.
